"The Burroughs," as William's invention was quickly known as, was the flagship product of the American Arithmometer Company and then the Burroughs Adding Machine Company (BAMCO) for many years.

Many additional models of machines were developed over the years, often through the acquisition of other companies with new promising machines. This sometimes aggressive approach to potential and actual competitors was a hallmark of the early years of the company.

This section of the website is dedicated to providing information about the companies who were the leaders in the rapidly growing industry.  Clearly, there were hundreds of manufacturers and many types of machines introduced.
